Ohio Bobcats vs. Akron Zips

The MAC takes center stage this evening once again as the upstart Ohio Bobcats invade Akron to take on Head Coach JD Brookhart’s Zips. The Bobcats, led by HC Frank Solich, have rattled off wins in back-to-back games, and look to make it 4 wins in five tries this evening.

Last we saw Ohio, they put forth a convincing win last Friday night at home. RB Kalvin McRae set the pace on the ground by rushing for 151 yards on 28 attempts and rumbled into the endzone once. The Bobcats defense limited the Temple Owls offense to a measly 209 total yards, and forced a pair of turnovers. Since allowing a combined 88 points to both Eastern Michigan and Toledo, the Bobcats have only surrendered 34 total points their last two games. They’ll look to keep the defensive intensity up vs. the Zips who’ve struggled to put points up on the board all season long.

Akron’s only averaged 19 PPG this season, and that numbers decreased to a shade under 17 PPG their L/3 contests. They’ve moved the ball between the 20’s, but turnovers (9 in the L/3 games) and poor red zone execution has seen them fail to put tallies on the board.

These clubs have met a total of 23 times in each programs history, and the all time series is tied at 11 games apiece with 1 tie. However, the Zips have dominated this series of late winning 6 of the L/8, but Ohio pulled through with a 17-7 home victory in the MAC East Championship season.

Oddsmakers have deemed the Bobcats the favorite in this contest by 3 points and the opening ‘Total’ was set at 54. A poor weather forecast has seen JQP look to the low side of the ‘Total’ and it currently sits at 49. The home team has gone 8-3 ATS the L/11 times these teams have met, and the ‘Under’ has cashed in 4 of the L/5 meetings as well.

This is a huge game for Ohio and a win is a must if they’re to have any shot of going back to the MAC title game and redeeming themselves for last year’s stinker in Detroit. Tune to ESPN2 at 7:30 ET to see if they can take two in a row from the Zips…
SLAM YOUR MAN!!!
