Minnesota vs. Chicago

The Bears picked up a season saving victory last week at Lambeau Field when they overcame a 10-point deficit at the half to knock off Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers by a 27-20 final count. This week’s match-up with the Minnesota Vikings makes it three weeks in a row squaring off against NFC North competition. The Vikings are coming off a much needed “Bye” last week as nagging injuries to a number of their offensive threats have had this club behind the proverbial 8-ball to start the season.

Since 1961, the Vikings lead the regular season series with the Bears by a 48-41-2 count. However, the Bears swept them in their NFC North Championship run last year. They knocked them off by a 19-16 final count in Week 3, and then scored a 23-13 triumph at Soldier Field in Week 13. Minnesota's most recent win in the series came in Week 17 of the 2005 campaign, a 34-10 home victory that was handed to them when HC Lovie Smith decided to rest his starters for their subsequent post-season run. The Bears have won 6 straight home games against the Vikings with Minnesota’s last win coming way back in 2000.

Since the benching of “Sexy Rexy”, the Bears offense has put a pair of 27 spots on the board. The Brian Griese experiment seems to be working, and OC Ron Turner looks to be more comfortable calling plays for his TE’s who now have 3 combined TD receptions between Desmond Clark and Greg Olsen. The ground game still hasn’t taken off, and probably won’t this week either against a stout Vikings run “D” that’s only surrendering an average of 62 YPG against their first four opponents. The Bears best chance of winning this game would be to look to the air where Minny’s much more vulnerable allowing 267 YPG.

Spread players should note that the Vikings get up for divisional play winning 9 of their L/12 against the number vs. NFC North competition, while the Bears are 7-1 ATS their L/8 October games. Was last weeks win over Green Bay the catalyst towards getting the Bears back on track, or was it just a matter of the Packers playing very conservatively in the 2nd half? Tune to your local affiliate at 1:00 ET to see what transpires in this NFC North showdown….
