Utah vs. Louisville

The Mountain West Conference and Big East Conference take center stage Friday night, as the (2-3) Utah Utes invade Louisville to take on the (3-2) Cardinals. Both clubs come into this match-up off easy victories last week. Utah bounced back from getting shutout at UNLV, and knocked off in state rival Utah State by a 34-18 final count. After getting humiliated at home by a woeful Syracuse team, the Cardinals got its mojo back in Raleigh by defeating the NCST Wolfpack 29-10.

Louisville’s 2007 campaign hasn’t gotten off to the greatest start for new HC Steve Kragthorpe and his staff. Since blowing out Murray State in the first game of the season (73-10), the Cardinals have split their next four. This is hardly what the Cardinal faithful expected of this club considering this team had been in the Big East and National Title chases at this point of the season the last couple years. With their National Championship dreams already squashed, the Cardinals now must look to recapturing the BE Championship, but they’ve got an enormous uphill battle in front of them.

Utah was dealt a serious blow to their season in just their first game when they lost both starting QB Brian Johnson to a minor shoulder separation and RB Matt Asiata for the season with a leg injury. Needless to say, but they’ve been hampered with some major injuries to key contributors and it’s taken an effect on their W/L mark to date. They’ve been dreadful on the road thus far going 0-2 SU & ATS and have been outscored 51-7.

They found their offensive rhythm vs. the Aggies last week, and might be on the verge of blowing up in this spot. Louisville boasts a tremendously bad defense, 28 PPG & 417 total YPG; so another track meet at Papa John’s Stadium is certainly a possibility (2-0 ‘Over’ in ’07).

Can the Utes get off the schneid on the road in this spot and take advantage of a very bad Louisville defense, or will the film from last years Armed Forces Bowl when Kragthorpe was at Tulsa aid him in leading his team to its fourth victory of the season? Tune to ESPN at 8:00 ET and discover the answers to these questions….
