West Virginia vs. South Florida

Website Gambling Article by - Who2beton.com - Sep 27, 2007 provided by Who2beton.com

A couple of Big East stalwarts square off tonight in a crucial game within the conference. West Virginia is coming off a successful home effort vs. East Carolina, while the South Florida Bulls took the UNC Tarheels out behind the woodshed and served up a beating of their own.

The Mountaineers, led by HC Rich Rodriguez, come into tonight’s match-up a perfect 4-0 SU & 2-0-2 ATS. They’re led by QB Pat White who’s gotten off to a fabulous start. He’s a dual threat that’s rushed for 286 yards and 6 TDs, and thrown for 617 yards and 6 TDs with 0 INT’s. His favorite target thus far has been WR Darius Reynaud, but this offense breads its butter with its ground attack and they boast one of the most solid RB/FB corps in the country. Heisman hopeful Steve Slaton has already rushed for 502 yards this season with a healthy 6.0 YPC average. When he’s out, RB Noel Devine comes in to amaze us with his whirling dervish speed. If you remember, he had a pair of fantastic runs against Maryland a couple Thursday nights ago. The short yardage is picked up by FB Owen Schmitt (the human battering ram).

South Florida might not be a team many are familiar with, but HC Jim Leavitt has built this program from scratch and he’s got a special group on his hands this season. The offense is led by QB Matt Grothe. He’s thrown for 652 yards and 4 TDs against the Bulls first three opponents of the season. However, the success of this team is predicated on the defenses ability to force turnovers and neutralize their opponents. So far, they’ve only allowed a total of 46 points through three games, and boast the rush defense that can give the Mountaineers potent attack problems.

This is a huge revenge game for the Mounty’s, as the Bulls went into Morgantown a year ago and single handedly crushed their National Championship dreams. USF scored the 24-19 win, and should come into tonight’s game confident knowing full well a majority of this years team took the field at WV a year ago. Tune to ESPN2 at 8:00 ET to see if the Mountaineers are able to pull off the win in this revenge spot, or if the Bulls can make it two in a row.
