San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

With 20 or less games to go on the docket in the regular season, this three game set between the Dodgers and Padres could go a long way in deciding whether either of these teams will qualify for the post-season.

Currently, the Padres sit three games in back of the division leading Diamondbacks, while the Dodgers find themselves 5.5 games behind. However, the Padres currently hold a one game lead over the Phillies for the Wild Card spot, while the Dodgers sit just 2.5 games back. This is a huge week for LA who gets to host both San Diego and Arizona, and they have a shot at rearranging both races if they put their best foot forward.

So far this season, the Padres have gotten the best of LA as they hold a 9-6 series edge. San Diego most recently took the last series at Petco in early September two games to one, and that was their seventh win against the Dodgers the L/10 times they've squared off.

With this being the last time these teams will meet in the regular season, LA will most definitely bring everything they've got. It won't be easy however as the Padres trot out 16-game winner Jake Peavy in the first game after getting pummeled in his last outing on short rest vs. Arizona. However, he’s flat out owned the Dodgers in his career. He’s 8-1 when starting against LA with an ERA of 2.28 and a WHIP of 1.024. Those are some pretty gaudy numbers, and to make matters worse for LA fans, he’s won all four starts against them this season in a rather convincing fashion.

The Dodgers will give the starting nod to Esteban Loaiza whose pitched very well since coming off the DL back in late August. He pitched brilliantly in his debut for the Dodgers back on September 3rd when he went seven strong allowing nine hits, and three earned runs in an 11-3 Dodger victory.

Words really can’t express how huge this series is for both teams, so tune into your local telecast or the extra innings package on DirecTV and watch as these ball clubs lock horns for their post-season lives.

SLAM YOUR MAN!!!
