Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit TigersWebsite Gambling Article by - Mike Rose from Who2beton.com - Sep 8, 2007 brought to you by Who2beton.com Wild Card fans couldn't have asked for a better match-up this time of year as both the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers find themselves three games in back of the front running NY Yankees. They just so happen to meet up tonight for the first of a three game set in what could be an elimination series for one of these two clubs. Unfortunately, the Mariners invade Motown playing some of their worst baseball of the season. They just recently snapped a nine game losing streak in NY earlier this week, but still ended up losing the series two games to one. Either their pitching fails to show up, or their bats go silent. That's been the story of this club the last couple weeks, and the only time they were in cahoots with one another was when the M's beat the Yanks behind Felix Rodriguez on Labor Day. Times haven't been pleasant for the defending AL Champs of late either. The Tigers own a 4-3 series edge so far in '07, but these clubs haven't seen one another since July. A lot has happened since then, and they come into this set playing for their playoff lives. The first game of this set pits the M's Miguel Batista against the Tigers fireballer, Justin Verlander. The Mariners have dropped the L/3 games Batista has started, but he put forth a quality start his last time out when he went 7 innings against Toronto yielding 5 hits and 1 ER, while striking out 7 and walking 3. He's 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA in eight career appearances against the Tigers. Justin Verlander is coming off a fantastic performance that saw him blow past the A's in Oakland for his 15th win of the season. He was given an extra days rest due to throwing 128 pitches in 6.2 innings, but he topped out at 100 MPH against the last batter he faced. The mechanical tweaks he made just might help him avoid the dead arm he suffered late last season. He owns a 3-0 mark against Seattle in his career, which includes a pair of victories against them this season.
