Roulette Tips and Strategy

Website Gambling Article by - - Nov 2, 2007

Object of the roulette game:

Roulette is simple, easy to play and exciting, with a wide variety of bets and combination of bets, some at long odds and some at even odds.

The Roulette Wheel has 36 numbers from 1 to 36, plus a "0" and a "00". The numbers are alternately colored red and black with the "0" and the "00" green.

Play begins when the roulette players have placed most of their bets by placing chips on the numbered layout. The Dealer then spins the white ball in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel. Bets may be placed until the ball is ready to leave the track and the Dealer calls "No more bets." The Roulette dealer places a marker on the winning number and bets are paid accordingly.

Roulette Chips (checks),ranging in value from 25¢, can be bought in stacks of 20 from the Dealer. Each roulette Player determines what the checks are worth when they buy-in and are given a color.

Players can make as many bets as they wish and can use roulette checks or chips or money.

Bets are placed in many different ways on the table, and on a variety of numbers for different reasons.

Roulette players may choose to change numbers every spin or play favorite numbers, birthdays, ages or even create decorative geometric patterns.

Roulette table minimums are posted at each roulette table. Checks (chips) have no value at any other game, so it is important to cash them in before leaving.

General Roulette Tips

Track the numbers

If a number repeats often within 100 roulette wheel spins you may have found a biased roulette wheel that can turn the house advantage around to your favor. A biased roulette wheel is one of only two true opportunities to overcome the casino's advantage. The other is described next.

Find the experienced roulette dealers

When an experienced dealer spins the wheel and releases the ball with roughly the same speed and trajectory consistently from spin to spin it is possible to calculate where the ball will drop. You wont know exactly where but you can determine a certain zone of the wheel - this allows you to know what numbers not to play!

Cash in your roulette Chips

You must buy in before playing roulette and exchange the colored chips for regular casino chips when leaving the table.

Avoid the 5 number bet

Always avoid the five number bet (covering 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3), it has the least profitable payback of all the bets. The house advantage on this bet is a whopping 7.89%.
